We recently carried out a crown reduction on a mature Blue Atlas Cedar situated on Ringinglow Road in Sheffield, directly opposite High Storrs School.
Positioned in a highly visible roadside location, the tree had become increasingly dominant within the surrounding space. Although Blue Atlas Cedars are impressive specimen trees, they can eventually outgrow smaller residential settings if left unmanaged.
Using careful pruning techniques, we reduced and reshaped the crown to improve the tree’s overall balance and proportions while retaining its natural character and presence within the landscape. The before and after photographs clearly show the difference that professional tree pruning can make to both the appearance and long-term management of a large ornamental tree.

Regular maintenance and ongoing monitoring are particularly important for trees growing in prominent roadside or residential locations. With the right approach, mature trees like this can often be retained safely for many years rather than requiring removal.
At Commonwealth Trees, we provide professional tree surgery services throughout Sheffield, Chesterfield and the Peak District, including crown reductions, pruning and specialist tree maintenance for large mature trees.
We also carry out detailed tree inspections and surveys to help property owners assess tree condition, structural safety and long-term management requirements.
